The Indian Nurses Association (INA) has threatened to launch a state-wide strike soon, protesting against the breach of promise by the management of Mar Baselious Hospital at Kothamangalam.
The police have registered cases against the nurses and their families, in contradiction to the promises made by the management a few days ago.
“The police and the hospital management are unleashing violence against the families of the nurses who were involved in the strike. Also, they are unnecessarily framing charges against those who had supported the strike. These steps are contrary to the promises made by the management.
If the cases are not withdrawn, we are planning to launch an all-Kerala strike soon,” said Muhammed Shihab, INA state general secretary. He was speaking to the reporters here on Tuesday.
The three nurses who had threatened to commit suicide, have been affected badly. “The police have booked them for charges of ‘attempt to suicide’. Also, they have been shifted to three separate departments that have the least number of patients,” he said.
Atrocities are being meted out to those who have supported the strike. “The arrests are being made at night so that the victims are unable to protest. This has to end,” Shihab added.
Nurses Priya Thomas, Anu V S and Vidhya Rani, who had threatened to jump off the terrace on August 15, said that they had never intended to commit suicide.
