New Delhi: The prominent social networking sites are abuzz with the rumour that music composer Anu Malik has called the song 'Kolaveri Di' a copy of his 2003 song 'Shehar Ka Jadu Re' from the film 'Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost'. Apparently, Malik has said this on a radio programme.
Responding to IBNLive's query about the allegations the music director said that the initial notes of both the songs – 'Shehar Ka Jadu' and 'Kolaveri Di' seem similar.
Though he did not accuse Anirudh Ravichandren of 'copying' his song, he has not completely denied it either.
Anu Malik said,"Let's not take any credit away from the young boy Anirudh Ravinchandren who is of my daughter's age. He and Dhanush have done a fantastic job and they should be credited for the song."
He further said that both the songs appear similar due to their initial notes.
Malik is also very hopeful about his upcoming project 'Gali Gali Mein Shor Hai' where Veena Malik is doing an item number.
Sung by Rajinikanth's son-in-law Dhanush, 'Kolaveri Di' had become an instant success on its official release.
So far, the song's video on YouTube has registered over 2 crore 37 lakh hits, a difficult feat to achieve by any standard.
Composed by Anirudh Ravichandren, the song has been also mentioned by the prestigious Time magazine.
However the similarities between the songs are hard to pick out for an untrained ear.
