New Delhi: Foreign Minister SM Krishna will be meeting the grandparents of Abhigyan and Aishwarya, the children of the Norway NRI couple Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya, on Tuesday at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The children were taken away by Norway's Child Welfare Services in May 2011 on grounds that the parents were not taking care of the children properly.

CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat met Krishna early on Tuesday and urged him to look into the matter.

"They are not giving the kids to the uncle," she said. "They are also saying they will give the children only after March. It is racist and against international law. The children's visas expire in March. They want it to be extended," she added.

"Mr Krishna has said he will look into the matter. Norway itself says there is no crime committed. How can they keep the kids with them? They are not Norway citizens," Karat added.

The bitter custody battle was resolved after the Norwegian government decided to hand over the children to their uncle Arunabhash Bhattacharya.

Anurup and Sagarika, meanwhile, have been granted visitation rights, without restrictions, with the Indian government monitoring the children's progress.
