DMK president M Karunanidhi on Wednesday reiterated there have been no talks with the DMDK on forging an alliance for the general elections but an invite has been sent to the party.
"No alliance talks have been held with the Vijayakant-led DMDK and the DMK party. An invitation to DMDK for an alliance has been given in a fit manner," Karunanidhi told reporters in Chennai.
The former Tamil Nadu chief minister was answering a question on the DMDK agreeing to align with the DMK if it supports Vijayakant's candidate in the February 7 Rajya Sabha polls.
Karunanidhi also said his party does not intend to ask the Congress for support for the DMK candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls.
Last year, Karunanidhi supremo Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha on the Congress support.
Karunanidhi expressed happiness at the Supreme Court's decision to commute the death sentence to life imprisonment of 15 convicts.
Karunanidhi said he would be more happy if a similar decision is taken in favour of the three death row convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case.
The three convicts are V Sriharan, also known as Murugan, T Suthendraraja, also known as Santhan, and AG Perarivalan, also known as Arivu.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991 at an election rally at Sriperumbudur near Chennai. The three - all linked to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam - were awarded death sentences by the trial court in 1999.
