CHENNAI: After the Comprehensive Security System (CSS) was put in place on October 10, the number of vehicles entering the Madras High Court premises daily, has drastically come down, as per an official release from the HC.While around 2,120 vehicles entered the HC campus per day between September 19 and 26, the number on Tuesday, was just 1,455. The release from the HC registrar-general S Vimala attributed this to the co-operation from the Bar, litigants, police and the court staff. On Tuesday, Madras HC chief justice M Y Eqbal, accompanied by justice Elipe Dharma Rao, inspected the arrangements at all the gates for the second consecutive day. They also paid a visit to the new special entry pass counters for senior citizens and women. Upon seeing the difficulties faced by illiterate persons to fill up the entry pass forms, the Chief Justice immediately ordered the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority to nominate two volunteers from NGOs, to help them in the process.Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Senior Citizen and Pensioners Welfare Association, Chennai, thanked the Chief Justice’s initiative in opening a reception counter meant exclusively for senior citizens.
