BHUBANESWAR: Denouncing the killing of an Odia student in the US, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday took up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Naveen spoke to External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, who is in Madrid, and Indian ambassador to the US Nirupama Rao about the murder of K Sheshadri Rao, a young Odia student, at Boston. According to the Chief Minister’s office here, both of them assured Naveen that they were on the job seriously. Nirupama said an officer of the Indian consulate in New York had been sent to Boston. The Indian consulate has taken charge of the body and it would be sent to India shortly. Investigation is on and the Indian ambassador assured the Chief Minister that they would be following up the matter with the authorities concerned. The Chief Minister has also written to Krishna expressing concern of the people of Odisha over the shocking incident. He has requested the Union Minister to take appropriate steps so that the culprits are punished. Naveen asked officials to arrange for smooth shifting of the slain student’s body to his native village in Koraput district. Sheshadri (24) was pursuing MBA in mathematical finance (treasury management) at Boston University School of Management. He was reportedly shot dead by an unidentified assailant at Aliston Street on Thursday night. Sheshadri was scheduled to complete the 18-month course next month and offered a three-month paid internship in a company here. His father K Sudhakar Rao, an employee with a bank at Jeypore in Koraput district, was informed by MEA officials about the tragic incident. Sheshadri, survived by his parents and a brother, had done his schooling at Jeypore and Cuttack.
