Varanasi: BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will be filing his nomination in Varanasi on Thursday. Modi is scheduled to reach Varanasi at 8:30am and will hold a roadshow starting from Maldaiah, leading to the collector's office, where he will be filing his nomination.
BJP's Uttar Pradesh chief Laxmikant Bajpai had said that Modi will reach Kashi University helipad and will do a road show for 1.5 kms till the collectorate office where he will file his nomination between 11.30 am and 12 pm.
Along with Varanasi Modi is also contesting from Vadodara in Gujarat where he filed his nomination on April 9 after a grand roadshow.
Varanasi will go to polls on 9 May and in the final phase on 12 May. The battle in Varanasi is one of the most high profile ones this election. Even though it is a traditional BJP bastion, Modi is facing stiff challenge from AAP's Arvind Kejriwal and Congress candidate Ajay Rai.
Arvind Kejriwal, too, filed his nomination in Varanasi on Wednesday amidst a huge gathering of supporters. He also held raod shows where he urged people to vote for AAP.
Security in this temple town has been tightened significantly ahead of filing of nomination by Modi and a high-level police team from Gujarat has arrived here to ensure a fool-proof cordon around the BJP's Prime Ministerial nominee.
Additional security forces have been deployed across the city including in and around Banaras Hindu University, Kashi Vidyapeeth and Vishwanath temple which are likely to be visited by Modi during his visit to the city on Thursday.
Sources said the police team from Gujarat is holding back-to-back meetings with the top officers of local administration here for security of Modi, who will be filing his nomination following a roadshow in the heart of the city.
