Kolkata: Still soaking the success of 'Ek Tha Tiger' as the script writer, journalist-author-radio storyteller and lyricist Neelesh Mishra said he had director Kabir Khan had Salman Khan in mind while creating the character of secret service agent Tiger as "it was in sync with his iconic stature".
"I think no other actor could have been more convincing for the part. Ek Tha Tiger was destined to be a hit the moment it had Salma-Katrina in the lead," Mishra told PTI
in an interview today. About the espionage bit in the film s main plot, he
said "As a journalist I have been familiar with world of espionage and had friends in RAW and other intelligence bureau. However one does have to infuse some liberties when adopting the same world for the Bollywood screen."
"We took those liberties but still tried to keep the character grounded and as real as possible," Mishra said by way of recollecting the film s making period which was one of the top grossers in Bollywood this year."
"The film became the trigger for my move to Mumbai and working at Yash Raj was a very happy experience that made me feel not too distant from the organized world of my office and my day job that I had left behind," he said.
Mishra, who is currently working on two new scripts, reveals one is a romantic story and the other a thriller. "I would prefer if the details are announced by the producers," he said when insisted to divulge a bit more.
To the question whether lyricists have to forsake their literary mindset at times for peppy numbers or remixes at times, for tracks like the ones in 'Maqbool', he said "This is the era of ringtones and lyricist often have to write words that might be catchy but not poetic."
About his experience in Barfi, which has gone to the Oscars, Mishra said, "In Barfi, though I really love writing the song 'kyon' where I felt liberated as a poet and did not feel the pressure of commercial bollywood writing.
"About naming of the hugely popular show 'Yaadon Ka Idiot Box' on Big FM, Mishra said "the name comes from the name of the main song in 'Rewind', the debut album of my band, Called Nine.
"The programme spawned the new concept of storytelling and songs, a new form of the ancient craft of 'qissagoi,' he said. "The radio show is a humble effort to revive oral storytelling in India.
"I have created an imaginary city called Yaad Sheher and I tell a new story every day from this city. It is very courageous of Big FM to have thought of such a show heard every week in 35 cities and the content uploaded to Facebook.
The listeners online are in about 20 countries and the radio programme has a huge following even in Pakistan.
