Murder case: Witness alleges threat from accused

Allegations of intimidation by accused were raised by a witness in Aprani Krishnakumar murder case, when the trial of accused in the case began before District and Sessions Judge B Sudheendra Kumar on Tuesday.

A key witness, Ullas, whose eyewitness accounts were examined by the court, told the court that he faced threats from the accused in the case and he even feared that the accused may harm him if he deposed against them.

It was just two weeks ago that the District Judge had strongly condemned acts of intimidation by the accused against witnesses in order to derail the course of the trial.  Another witness Saju was declared hostile by the court after he refused to identify the accused. Saju had driven the car in which Krishnakumar travelled, when he was hacked to death on February 20, 2007.

Ullas had identified two accused, Ambalamukku Krishnakumar and Jamanthi Arun, who are the sixth and seventh accused respectively. Seven of the total 11 accused were present in the court. The first, second, fourth and fifth, 3D Arun, Peeli Shibu, Ameer and Karate Suresh respectively are absconding after they got bail.

Ullas said that he could identify them anytime.

Case registered

Meanwhile, Pettah police registered a case  against two unidentified persons on a complaint filed by Santha, mother of Ullas, saying that she was threatened by them.

The incident happened at Chakkai bypass when she was on her way home from court, according to the complaint. The two, who came on a motorcycle that did not have a registration number, chased the vehicle in which Santha was travelling and threatened her of dire consequences.
