Mumbai: An oil tanker Pratibha Tapi has been stuck off the Mumbai port from over two-and-a-half months along with 29 sailors. The condition of the sailors has turned very bad because they have neither food nor water to drink. Some of the sailors have fallen sick as they have been stuck for nearly three months.
The ship's captain is also trapped along with his family. But till now neither the government nor the shipping company has acted to rescue the sailors and the ship. These employees are not able to get off the ship because Mumbai port authorities are not letting them do so.
The ship is stranded almost four nautical miles off the Mumbai port. The condition of the employees is becoming worse day by day because of the shortage of food and fuel.
Actually, the shipping company has not completed immigration formalities which are mandatory if the sailors are to get off at the port. Sources say the company has gone bankrupt.
The ship came from Gujarat in October to the Mumbai port, carrying oil which the vessel off loaded at the port. Later, Pratibha Shipping Company told the ship crew to take the vessel outside the port. Since October 18 the ship has been stranded and there has been no instruction from the shipping company.
DG Shipping has been informed about the stranded ship. A meeting is scheduled on January 3, which will try to resolve the matter.
