Mumai police arrested a man from the Worli area on Friday for indulging in unnatural sexual acts with minors.

New Delhi: The Mumai police arrested a middle-aged man from the Worli area of the metropolis on Friday for indulging in unnatural sexual acts with some minor boys.

Three cases, including one of molestation and two of unnatural sex with minors, have been registered at Dharavi police station against the 45-year-old man, who has been identified as Sanjay Patil alias Babu Pandurang.

Sanjay, a resident of Dharavi, was arrested after three of his neighbours filed complaints, alleging that he forcibly had intercourse with two of their children and molested another.

"Two parents had filed complaints stating that their children had been molested by Patil, who lives in their neighbourhood. Following the complaints, he was arrested on the charges of indulging in unnatural sexual acts," Prakash George, a senior police official at Dharavi police station, was quoted as saying by PTI.

The officer also said that another resident had also alleged that her daughter had been molested by Sanjay. Some other residents of the area also alleged that Sanjay had molested or had unnatural sex with around 12 minors.

George said they did not register cases with regard to the other victims as the children denied that they were sexually assaulted by Sanjay.

Medical examinations of some of the minor victims, however, didn't reveal sodomy.

The first complaint was lodged by Dilip Patil on April 25 and the seond by Prakash Mhetre on April 28. Dilip had alleged that Sanjay had molested his son while Mhetre's complaint said the man had molested his six-year-old daughter.

Sanjay, who worked in a shop that repairs music systems, allegedly threatened the kids with electric shocks if they talked about it to anyone or revealed anything about his misdeeds.

He used to sexually abuse the children whenever his wife was away, the police claim. One of the parents alleged that the police were not taking their complaints seriously and claimed that they finally acted against the man only after some reports in the media.

"The police did not entertain us since May 28. They would either ask us to wait for long hours or call us the next day. We were forced to call the media. They registered complaints only after media pressure," an aggrieved resident said.
