CHENNAI: A woman set her two children on fire and later immolated herself on Sunday, after her husband left for a relative’s marriage that she had insisted that he should not attend. Police said while the woman and her four-year-old son succumbed to burns, her two-year-old daughter was fighting for life in the hospital.Radhika (24) and her husband Velu (36), a printing press owner from Kachalesswarar Garden Street, Muthialpet, had to attend a relative’s wedding when their son Hari (4) fell ill. The couple attended the wedding after going to a doctor. After the couple reached home, the woman had allegedly asked her husband not to attend the wedding on Sunday and instead stay at home and take care of their son.But Velu decided to attend the wedding. That angered his wife Radhika and she fought with him, police said. Dejected over the issue, Radhika set her children on fire and later set fire to herself, police said. Her neighbours who heard them shouting, rushed them to Kilpauk Medical Hospital where Radhika and Hari succumbed to injuries.Three Students HeldThree expelled college students were arrested for robbing an engineering student at knife-point near Avadi Tank Factory on Saturday. The three students - Anish Kumar (17) of Jharkhand, Sunil Kumar Yadav (18) of Bihar and Saurav Suman (20) of New Delhi - who were pursuing a polytechnic course were expelled from the college in Avadi.On Friday night, the three students robbed Rajiv Kumar (21) of UP, who was also studying in the same college. At knifepoint, they stole his laptop, two-wheeler, wallet, ATM card and ID card.Fish Vendor MurderedA 40-year-old fish vendor was murdered by his relatives in Chitlapakkam late on Saturday night. Pachamuthu from Muthu Mari Amma Koil Street, Tiruvanchery, would usually sort out issues between his brother-in-law Ramachandran and his wife Sarala. On Friday, the couple again quarrelled and Pachamuthu argued in Ramachandran’s favour that got Sarala’s relatives angry. The relatives had asked the fish vendor to come again for talks. On late Saturday, they picked up Pachamuthu in an auto and slit his throat.
