KARIMNAGAR: Already reeling under power problems, the state is in for further crisis as power generation at the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Ramagundam has plummeted by 1,000 MW on Wednesday.
While the total generation capacity of the station stands at 2,600 MW, on Wednesday, it fell from 1,900 MW to 1,800 MW. The ongoing SCCL strike has brought coal production to a grinding halt and its impact on NTPC is evident. Since September 14, power generation in the state has decreased. There was a 700 MW power loss in the first one week of the Sakalajanula Samme which slightly improved after the state began transporting coal from Eastern Coal Field Limited of Chhattisgarh, Western Coal Field Limited of Maharastra and Mahanadi Coal Field of Bihar.

According to officials, about two to four rakes of coal is supplied from various coal fields everyday. They added that the NTPC had received two rakes of coal on Wednesday morning while they were expecting another two or three rakes by night.

Meanwhile, NTPC authorities assure that the coal being transported from other states would produce about 1,800 to 1,900 MW a day.
