KOCHI: The rent arrears and piling charge of 215 beneficiaries of the Moolampilly Rehabilitation Package were settled using funds to the tune of `53.17 lakh on Monday.The rent arrears have been given to 142 families who gave their land for the road project and 73 others who gave up land for the rail project. With this, the rent arrears until December 2011 have been cleared, said Land Acquisition Deputy Collector Mohandas Pillai. The rent dues and other benefits till March will be settled soon, he added. Although the distribution of benefits were planned to be done earlier as per the instructions of District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth, it was delayed due to the Piravom by-election.Those who lost their livelihood during the Moolampilly land acquisition drive have been given two cents of land and `37,500 each towards piling charges for the construction of new homes.
