BELGAUM: Denying rumours about action taken against Mayor Manda Balekundri and Deputy Mayor Renu Killekar by the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti, city president of the Samiti T K Patil said the MES had not sacked them, but had only condemned them for sending their reply to the government in Kannada.Speaking to news persons here on Thursday, Patil said a few persons from electronic media misunderstood his statement and telecast it saying that Manda and Renu were  sacked from the MES.The Samiti would never take such an action without discussing it properly in its meetings, he added.Patil said the government had issued a notice asking why the City Corporation should not be superceded?. “What is important was to give a proper answer to it. There was no compulsion on the language to be chosen to write the reply in. The reply of Manda in Kannada was not required. She did it only to soften the decision of the government. But this has hurt the feelings of MES, which is struggling to protect the existence of Marathi language here,” he said.Patil said Belgaum Mayors participating in  the black day observed by the MES was not new. Several times in the past the MES candidates were elected as Mayors of Belgaum and they had participated in the black day celebrations. When the government did not object to it in the past, why was it raising an objection now, he asked.

What's your reaction?
