The fruits of success are best enjoyed when one has toiled their way to it from humble origins. This article documents the success of one such individual from the rural interiors of West Bengal, Vishwarup Saha, hailing from Shantipur in the Nadia district of the state, who has achieved remarkable success by securing the eighth position in India in an entrance examination. Currently, he serves as a scientist specialising in nuclear medicine at the Department of Atomic Energy under the Government of India.

Vishwarup Saha, originally from Shantipur near the river, has been granted the opportunity to conduct research in nuclear medicine under the auspices of the Government of India’s Department of Atomic Energy. This achievement not only signifies his dedication to research but also guarantees a prominent role within the government, marking it as a significant central government position. His eighth rank in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) underscores his academic prowess and promises a concurrent career path.

Before this achievement, Vishwarup had previously ranked 101st in the nationwide NET examination. As a top performer, he had opportunities for interviews and admissions at prestigious institutions like IIT Kanpur, Mumbai Institute of Technology and IISc Bengaluru. However, his passion for nuclear research led him to pursue opportunities at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. In 2024, he also received a scholarship abroad at Kyoto and Cairo Universities due to his keen interest in nuclear studies and his research aspirations at the Atomic Research Centre.

Vishwarup’s educational journey began at Shantipur Municipal High School, followed by Kalyani University’s affiliated Chakdaha College where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, securing the second position within the university. He holds great respect and appreciation for all the teachers who supported him, especially those from Shantipur, with whom he maintains regular contact.
