Marion Jones has been handed out a 2-year ban by the US Anti-Doping Agency after she admitted to having taken banned substances.
Jones has also been stripped of the Olympic medals she won at the 2000 Olympics. Her lawyer confirmed that she had returned the medals.
Jones had won three gold medals and two bronze at the Sydney Games.
After denying taking steroids, Jones told the court that she had taken a banned steroid known as the 'clear' from September 2000 to July 2001.
Jones pleaded guilty and now faces up to six months in jail. She will be sentenced in January next year.
