Maoists killed a former colleague, Nagaboyina Anasuya alias Swarnakka (29), branding her as a ‘police informer’, near Kommugudem village in the Sayannapalli forest area of Gundala mandal in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to sources, the Maoists have killed as many as nine persons branding them as police informers in the Bhadrachalam and Kothagudem divisions in the last three years. But it was the first time that they killed a woman in the district.
Some Maoists of the Kothaguda-Narsampet Badhru squad descended on the Kommugudem village around midnight on Friday and forcibly took way Swarna, a former Maoist squad (dalam) member, and her sister Sunita from their house into the nearby forest. After questioning her about the encounter death of dalam commander Singanna in February, they shot Swarna dead.
They beat up Sunita but set her free. Police found a letter near the body of Swarna in which the Maoists alleged that Swarna had been working as a police informer.
Gundala police sub-inspector K.Satish said they registered a case and took up combing operations.
