London: Harsh Mankad has won his first ITF challenger title in Manchester beating Joshua Goodall of Britain in a hard-fought final 7-6, 7-6 in the $25,000 grasscourt tournament on Sunday.

The win earned Mankad 50 points, taking him up 109 places to 287th in the lastest rankings released by the ATP.

The 26-year-old had beaten second seed Antony Dupis of France in the semi-final. Mankad had overcome the challenges of Australian Luke Bourgeois, French Jean-Francois Bachelot and Jaroslav Pospisil of Czech Republic in the previous rounds.

He has been out of the Indian Davis Cup Team but this performance may get him back in the reckoning although he had made himself unavailable for national duty after being included only as a reserve player in Davis Cup rubber against Sweden at Delhi earlier this year.

In the doubles, Mankad, partnering Philip Stolt of USA, had lost to Goodall and Ros Hutchins 5-7 6-3 9/11 in the semi-finals.
