Man to fight elections for 75th time
A self-styled 'Election King', has decided to contest for the 75th time to gain entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Chennai: A self-styled 'Election King', who has crossed swords with the who's who of Indian politics in various elections has decided to contest for the 75th time.

The idea is to gain entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The 46-year-old small time businessman, K Padmarajan, has filed his nomination for the Chepauk constituency, from where DMK President M Karunanidhi is seeking re-election in the May eight Assembly elections.

He has also jumped into the fray against PMK President and sitting MLA G K Mani in Mettur constituency.

Padmarajan, a native of Mettur in Salem district, has fought against various political stalwarts, including former Prime Ministers P V Narasimha Rao and A B Vajpayee in the Lok Sabha elections.

He has also contested against former Kerala Chief Minister A K Antony and the late Congress leader G K Moopanar.

What began as a hobby in 1988 when he filed his nomination for the Mettur seat for the first time, became a passion for him.

He has so far contested 74 times with an aim to gain entry into the Guinness Book.

Electoral defeats or the 'might' of his political opponents have never bothered Mr Padmarajan, who claimed to have spent about Rs 10 lakh over the years on contesting elections.

"Winning the election is not my aim as I want to set a world record as the most unsuccessful candidate," he says.

Padmarajan also filed nomination for the Presidential election against late K R Narayanan in 1997, which was rejected on scrutiny.

He has also filed nominations 14 times for the Rajya Sabha.

He hit the headlines in 1996 when he was kidnapped by an unidentified gang immediately after filing his papers against Narasimha Rao in Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency.
