A horrific video coming from the temple town of Madhya Pradesh shows a man allegedly raping a woman scrap collector after making her drink alcohol in the Agar Naka area of Ujjain. The incident came to light after a video of the rape went viral on social media, said Kotwali Area’s City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Om Prakash Mishra. The accused has been arrested.
The crime occurred on Wednesday when the man, who had promised to marry the woman, made the woman drink alcohol and then raped her. He further threatened her against speaking about the sexual assault and fled the spot.
“Accused Lokesh promised to marry her, made her drink liquor and then raped her on Wednesday. Some people who were passing by shot videos of the incident instead of stopping the crime. Lokesh later fled from the spot. After the woman filed a complaint when the effect of alcohol wore off, Lokesh was arrested,” SP Om Prakash Mishra was quoted by news agency PTI.
‘When Law & Order Ends’: Congress
Soon after the video of the horrific incident went viral, Congress leader Jitu Patwari attacked the BJP-led state government and alleged that the incident hints towards the completely end of law and order in Ujjain.
“Dharamnagari Ujjain has been tarnished once again! This time too, the black mark has been put on the forehead of the law and order of Ujjain. I am in shock that now in Ujjain rapes have started happening in broad daylight, in the open street. This is possible only when the effect of law and government ends completely!” the Congress leader took to X and wrote.
“If this is the condition of the Chief Minister’s hometown, then the condition of the rest of the state can be easily understood. The atrocities being continuously committed against Dalit and tribal women can also be felt!” he added.
