Madhani to be produced in court on October 29

COIMBATORE: A court here has asked the police to produce People’s Democratic Party chief Abdul Nasser Madhani before it on October 29. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is probing the planting of a live bomb on the Coimbatore Press Club premises on December 30, 2002 had filed a petition, seeking the custody of Madhani to interrogate him further in the case.Madhani, presently lodged in Bangalore Central Prison as an accused in the serial bomb blasts that rocked the Garden City in 2008, was arrested formally by the SIT from Coimbatore on Tuesday evening. On Thursday, the team obtained prisoner transit warrant from a Bangalore court. It had planned to produce Madhani before the Judicial Magistrate-3 here by Monday in order to seek his custody. On Monday, the SIT pleaded in the court to allow it to produce Madhani after October 28, and cited problems in providing adequate police escort for him before the local body elections.Following this, Judicial Magistrate M Parameswari directed the SIT to produce Madhani in the court on October 29. The SIT had earlier sought help of Coimbatore city police to provide escorts for Madhani while he is transferred from Bangalore.
