KOCHI: Old superstitions about black cats exist to this day. They are believed to be witches incarnate. But in Feng Shui it is just the opposite, as cats are considered to be Gods. What made the cats be the chosen ones from the animal kingdom? There is a story behind it. It is the story of a Chinese king who was saved from a tree fall. After the incident, the cat was nowhere to be seen. From then on it was believed that the cat made its guest appearance only to save the king and hence was considered to be auspicious. Vishnu Das,a young Indian mind too feels that all animals are blessed to sense out natural disasters and harm that is about to happen to us. This sixteen year old made up his mind to be a Feng Shuian rught after his board exams. From his childhood he had seen his folks especially his father working on Feng Shui. He got inspired and became inquisitive to know more about the subject. For Vishnu, just gaining knowledge was not enough. He wanted it to be a reformative tool for the people. Vishnu knew that going places lecturing about Feng Shiu and its goodness may not be feasible. As reformation is a long drawn out task, he selected pen to be his first weapon to fight for positive energies. It worked well and the end result was a book ' Feng Shui, the art of living in harmony with your environment'.The book covers all aspects about feng shui and its objects which drive away bad 'chi' from our homes, offices and other buildings. It talks about the negative energies that bog one down physically and mentally. As a preventive tool, wind chimes, plants, fish, mirrors, statues are advised to be used, as they have the power to caste away bad chi (negative energy). “People approach me saying that the lucky bamboo at their home turns yellow. It denotes the presence of negative energy within the house," Vishnu says. About liquor consumption, he says, “It brings in negative energy, as it tends to act as a catalyst for all the problems.” The book was written after extensive research was done on the subject, with assistance from his father. The fact that it has received appreciation from many quarters has delighted him. Vishnu was especially pleased to get the blessings of the famous writer critic Sukumar Azhikode when he presented the book to the veteran. His book gives evidence of animals understanding natural calamities, negativity of colours, importance of directions and architectural flaws that can bring bad luck. He says,“Before tsunami, animals had showed every sign of discomfort. But we failed to understand their signals. Instead, we brutally kill them during some of our festivals.” Vishnu in turn is a veggie who sticks to his principles. He now plans to come up with his second book on advanced feng shui.Vishnu's father K S Shivdas was initially skeptical about the book's success and wondered how he would thrive in this field. Like every ambitious parent, he too wanted his son to take up a professional course after his twelfth. But things changed over time. Shivdas is today astonished seeing the response his son has been getting. “I am very impressed at the way my son plans to take this forward and I appreciate his outlook.” A sense of contentment is what he experiences when people revert back to him with positive feedback. Feng Shui doesn't insist on demolishing an expensive construction, instead it can be compensated with the presence of Feng Shui objects, he says.
