NAMAKKAL: As the strike by LPG bulk transport operators hit cooking gas supply in the State, operators have demanded that the Centre and the State government intervene in the issue. Industry sources claimed that transportation of liquefied gas to all the 52 bottling plants located in the Southern states was affected almost totally on day one.Talking to media persons here on Thursday, president of the Southern Region Bulk LPG Transport Owners Association (SRBLTOA) M Ponnambalam said that the strike was total in all the Southern states.He made it clear that there was no question of calling off the strike until their demands were met by the major oil companies, which remained adamant on the issue of finalising tenders for a period of three years.“If the strike continues for a few more days, LPG supply will be badly affected. As such, the Union government as well as the State government should intervene in the issue,” he stressed.Nearly 10,000 tons of LPG is being ferried from refineries to the bottling plants on a daily basis.The strike would incur a loss of about `2.5 crore to the bulk LPG tanker operators, sources said.
