Seoul: Global appliances major LG Electronics is soon planning to launch a smart refrigerator in India that suggests what you can make with what is in the box, and also tells you that the food you stored is no longer fresh.

"Its 'Health Manager' feature will offer specific, nutritious meal plans and recipes of up to a week based on a family's profile and medical conditions. 'Smart Shopping' will offer online grocery shopping directly from the refrigerator's LCD panel, or by a smartphone," Shin added.

He further said smart refrigerator will be efficient in terms of power consumption and will be priced at a 10 per cent premium compared to other products.

Expressing satisfaction about the way Indian market is performing, Shin observed, "Indian market is very complex and customers need value for money. Unless we differentiate ourselves by going up the value chain and offer products that make life easier for the user, it will be impossible even to

compete."

Besides, smart refrigerator, LG Electronics will also launch its new robotic vacuum cleaner Hom-Bot in India which has added features, such as ultrasonic and infrared sensors to avoid collisions or scuff marks, for more convenient and efficient cleaning.

LG India is expecting a growth of more than 25 per cent this year targeting a turnover of over Rs 5,000 crore in the refrigerator segment.

LG India posted overall sales turnover of Rs 16,200 crore in 2011. It expects to cross Rs 20,000 crore this year.
