An internationally reputed professor of law, who heralded a new era in Indian legal education, Prof. (Dr.) N.R. Madhava Menon delivered a guest lecture, “Prospects of Legal Education, to the faculty of Law at the ICFAI University, on Thursday.
Addressing a gathering, comprising of invitees from various fields, he emphasized on the dynamics of law and prophesied the omniscience of law by 2020. Speaking on the legal education the professor gave a picturesque view of the evolution of legal education in the pre-independence and post-independence era. He stated, “Law is the greatest discovery of human civilization and has been a subject of liberal education.”
Menon suggested that every university should teach law as an essential subject in undergraduate courses and interdisciplinary approach. He also said, “The importance of legal education is not confined to lawyers and judges alone but extended to everyone in the society and state at large.”
Considering law as contextual he opined it should be studied in the context of society.
The National Law Universities have come into existence to lead this pragmatic essence for the common benefit of all.
