Laxmi Manchu, the Freida Pinto of ABC Studios is all set for her Bollywood debut in 'Department'.

Mumbai: Here's Sanjay Dutt's Desperate Housewife. No, we're not talking about Manyata, but Sanju baba's new co-star, who acted in ABC Studios' popular sitcom Desperate Housewives, and will now make her Bollywood debut.

Laxmi Manchu, the Freida Pinto of ABC Studios and Cherry Productions insanely popular sitcom Desperate Housewives, is the only Indian actor to have shared screen space with the likes of Eva Longaria and Teri Hatcher. Now, this Telegu beauty, none other than Mohan Babu's daughter, is all set to try her luck in Bollywood. She will star opposite Sanjay Dutt in Ram Gopal Varma's Department. Shy, softspoken and sporting a very thick American accent, Manchu laughs lusciously when asked about her awesome biodata that includes the two TRP-topping American series Las Vegas and Desperate Housewives.

"I've done several episodes of Las Vegas and Desperate Housewives, but I left the US before my episodes of Desperate Housewives were aired. I've also done a number of commercials in the US. Though I returned to India a year back, the cheques still keep coming," admitted Manchu.

Being the daughter of the legendary Mohan Babu has its disadvantages, said Manchu. "I didn't want to be known only as Mohan Babu's daughter, though I'm very proud of him. I wanted to make a name for myself. So I went to the States to make an identity for myself. Out there, you get work not because of whose son or daughter you are, but on merit. I love their way of functioning, it gave me a sense of worth."

Manchu also hosted a talk show on American television. "The theme of my show was, every ordinary individual has an extraordinary story to tell." Though she is entering Telugu and Hindi cinema now, her staff -- manager and PR agents -- in the US are still functioning. "I haven't closed that part of my life," she said.

Said Varma, "I signed her on after I saw her in a Telugu film Anaganaga O Dheerudu.I was very impressed."
