BANGALORE: Farmers from Bellary, who formed the Bhoosantrastara Horatta Samiti, took out a motorbike jatha on July 9 and reached Bangalore on July 11. The rally began at the Mahatma Gandhi statue, Anand Rao Circle and headed towards the Vidhana Soudha, but they were stopped mid way by police officials at K R road.
M Nagdev of the Samiti, said that for the past two years the land prices have been set without the approval of the farmers and there has been no set level of compensation for farmers for the acquired land. "We have written so many petitions, all in vain. The government is considering the companies' letters and not ours," Nagdev said. The Samiti's demands are- the Lokayukta should probe the revised land acquisition act of 2009 that has been violated. From now the KIADB should stop acquiring more land than required for industries. If acquired by KIADB, then they should distribute the profits among farmers.
