A military court in Pakistan has sentenced Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav to death for alleged involvement in "spying" and "subversive activities". India has acknowledged Jadhav as a retired Indian Navy officer, but denied that he was in any way connected to the government.

Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested reportedly from Balochistan after he entered from Iran. He was accused by Pakistan of being a "R&AW (Research and Analysis Wing) agent” and planning "subversive activities" in the country. The Indian government, on the other hand, believed that he was picked up from Iran.

Here is a timeline of the case:

March 3, 2016: Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested reportedly from Balochistan after he entered from Iran, Pakistan claims.

March, 2016: Pakistan releases a video of Jadhav purportedly confessing of being an Indian spy.

April, 2016: Jadhav charged with terrorism and sabotage in an FIR filed against him by the provincial Balochistan government.

December 2016: Pakistan Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz tells the Pakistan Senate that there is not enough evidence against Jadhav.

March, 2017: Aziz retracts his statement that there is not enough evidence against Jadhav and tells the Pakistan senate the Jadhav will not be extradited to India.

April 10, 2017: Jadhav sentenced to death in a secret trial.
