THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee is gearing up for yet another farce of constituting a committee to look into the defeat of certain candidates of the party in the recent Assembly elections.
The KPCC executive committee meeting scheduled here on Wednesday is likely to take a decision on this as there are complaints galore about the defeat of certain candidates. If constituted, this will be the third consecutive committee that will probe into the reasons for the defeat of Congress candidates in the elections. The interesting fact is the reports of the previous two committees had not seen the light of the day.
Soon after the Assembly elections in 2006, the KPCC had constituted a committee headed by C V Padmarajan to look into the reasons behind the defeat of a few candidates, which included JSS leader K R Gowri.Similarly in 2009, soon after the Lok Sabha elections, the KPCC had constituted a committee headed by former KPCC president Thennala Balakrishna Pillai to find the reasons behind the defeat of the Congress candidates in Palakkad, Alathur, Attingal and Kasargod. This committee, surprisingly, is yet to submit its report.'The Padmarajan committee had recommended action against certain leaders for their role in the defeat of the candidates. That was the main reason why this report is kept concealed,' said a senior party leader. This time also, leaders like A P Anilkumar and K T Benny have raised complaints about their defeat and charged the district leaders for not working for them. By constituting another committee with no action on the recommendations or no report at all, the party leadership in the state is all set for a routine exercise.
