Kolkata livid after Knights fail to reach semis
It's been some time since cricket-crazy Kolkata erupted with such bitterness.

Kolkata: Cricket fans in Kolkata are perhaps the most fickle in the country. This time though they have reason to be enraged. Their team has been dumped out of the Indian Premier League and what's worse is their meek surrender.

"Rightly or wrongly, this is my personal belief that korbo, lorbo, jeetbo which means do, fight and win is what life is all about. And I make no bones in saying that," a confident Shah Rukh Khan had said in an interview with CNN-IBN few days ago.

But it seems as if SRK’s Knights simply weren't up to the task. It has been quite a while since cricket-crazy Kolkata erupted with so much of bitterness.

As the Knights rode out of the Eden Gardens after their six-wicket defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals, they were done in by a far superior team and the disappointment hurtled out.

"I’m very disappointed by Sourav Ganguly’s performance. He is not batting well and he is not bowling well. He should be thrown out of the team," said a fan.

"Don’t take anyone who is a burden to the team and I have no hesitation in taking the names of Aakash Chopra and Ajit Agarkar," added another livid Kolkata supporter.

Despite of the marketing blitz and the star-power behind them, the Knight Riders campaign never really kicked off. Other than beating the Delhi Daredevils, the Knights never really came close to winning against any of the other top teams. And just beating the two least successful teams twice over didn't really help.

"We haven’t played well throughout the tournament. We have had starts and stops and today the better side won," Ganguly had said after his side was drubbed on their home ground on Tuesday.

What rubs it in more is perhaps the advice that one of India's shrewdest captains got from his own city.

"I would suggest Sourav Ganguly not to preach umpires on catches. He should learn from Shane Warne. Warne is a retired player now but he is also the skipper of Rajasthan Royals and he taught Ganguly a lesson," said one of the many spectators at the Eden Gardens, who witnessed the demise of the Knight Riders.

Clearly the theme song of korbo, lorbo, jeetbo re has fallen flat and it's back to the drawing board for the Knights.

What's your reaction?
