The Corporation launched an intensive cleanliness drive in the city on Thursday. The drive, launched as part of the preparatory works ahead of the Emerging Kerala event to be held here from September 12, mainly aims at making the city clean from unauthorised hoardings, boards and banners placed at roadsides.
“We have started the removal of illegal hoardings, posters and flexboards from road sides, including the posters and boards nailed on trees,” said Deputy Mayor B Bhadra.
She said the cleaning work would be completed in two days. “Along with that, the civic body had already given instructions to make sure that no wayside eateries will be opened from September 12 to 14,” she said.
Street side selling, including tender coconut and thattukadas will not be allowed during the time of the event. “We have already issued notification in this regard,” Bhadra said.
The Corporation, in association with the Public Works Department, has already launched the immediate repair works on major roads. The patch work on roads will be completed within two days, she said.
The other local bodies between Nedumbassery and Maradu will also carry out similar cleanliness drives in their respective areas as part of the preparatory works.
