HYDERABAD: It appears that holding the written test for recruitment of sub-inspectors of police as scheduled on August 13 and 14 across the state has become a matter of prestige to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and its cancellation to some of his cabinet colleagues from the Telangana region. While the chief minister is determined to go ahead with the test on August 13 and 14, some Telangana ministers are issuing warnings demanding its postponement. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy is learnt to be getting ready to resign from the ministry if the examination is held.Heated arguments took place between Kiran Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy at the CM’s camp office near Begumpet on Thursday on the examination issue. Telangana ministers D Sridhar Babu, B Saraiah and P Sudershan Reddy who accompanied Komatireddy, stood up to leave the place with an intention to avert further arguments between the two. The chief minister, it is learnt, made it clear to Komatireddy that the question of postponing examination did not arise since the decision was taken only after talking to home minister P Sabita Reddy who hails from Telangana. He, however, assured to make all efforts for deletion of Clause 14(f) by the Centre. Not satisfied with the reply, Komatireddy warned that the chief minister and the state government would be held responsible for the severe consequences that would arise if the examination was held. Komatireddy, who holds the infrastructure and investments portfolio, remarked to Kiran that no weightage was being given to ministers’ request for postponement of the examination. On the other hand, Union home minister P Chidambaram responded positively to a letter written by Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal by asking the state government to have another Assembly resolution passed for deletion of Clause 14(f) of the Presidential Order. “What is the use of being a minister when the chief minister and the government do not respond to our request?” Komatireddy fumed. When the Telangana ministers talked to the home minister over phone later, she made it clear to them that the decision on the examination had been taken by the chief minister.Talking to newsmen later, Komatireddy asserted that they (Telangana ministers) were prepared to submit resignations to governor ESL Narasimhan if the Centre failed to create Telangana state by September. The chief minister had promised to take steps for deletion of the clause before August 13 and they sought its deletion by August 10. The chief minister said there would not be any postponement of the test. “We have asked the chief minister not to be rigid on it. Consequences will be serious if the test is conducted before deletion of the clause. We have asked for its postponement by two weeks,” he said and demanded opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu’s reaction since the Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution seeking deletion of the clause.
