Thiruvanathapuram: Seeking increase in their basic salary, the Nurses in private hospitals in the state will go on a mass leave from Thursday. The casualty and emergency services will not be affected though.
Nurses under the United Nurses Association and Indian Nurses Association have been demanding an increase in their basic salary.
The nurses are demanding a basic salary of Rs 20,000 according to the Supreme Court guidelines. At present they are getting about Rs 8,00 to 9,000 and in many hospitals it is as less as 5,000.
There has been several round of talks, but no headway so far. The management is not ready to pay a basic salary of Rs 20,000.
The mediation talk by the high court on Wednesday also failed.
On Thursday, Chief Minsiter Pinarayi Vijayan has called for a talk at 4 pm. Already in Kannur and Kasargod districts nurse have been protesting by staying away from work.
The nursing students in Kannur also protested after the Collector ordered them to treat patients as nurses were striking.
About 90,000 nurses in the state are part of this protest.
