Karnataka Express from Mysore proposed

South Western Railway Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Anup Dayanand Sadhu said that they have proposed to operate the Karnataka Express train from Mysore instead of Bangalore and extension of coaches from 16 to 24 for some express trains operating from Mysore to Bangalore, and Mangalore.

At the interaction organised by the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Monday, he said that they had sought the approval from the Railway Board and Commissioner for Railway Safety to run the Karnataka Express from Mysore Station before March.

He said that for the extension of coaches longer platforms were needed in some stations. In Srirangapatna, there are bridges before and after the station. Therefore, the stoppage of Tippu Express has been cancelled.

Even if the railway extends coaches of other express trains between Mysore and Bangalore, those too will not be able to stop in Srirangapatna, he said.

Reiterating that the double track between Mysore and Bangalore will be completed soon, he said that the works are almost complete between Bangalore and Channapatna and Mysore and Naganahalli.

“We hope doubling works will be completed by December 2013,” he said.
