Popular actor in Bollywood and film-maker Anurag Kashyap’s girlfriend, Kalki Koechlin has no qualms in admitting that she is travelling home in a taxi from her shoot instead of a luxury car. In fact, she apologises profusely for the din around her that might disturb our interview on the telephone. The actor who made a smooth transition from the theatre stage to the big screen says, “Actually, between Anurag and me, we share one car. So, I let Anurag take the car and I hail a taxi.”
Kalki who emphasises that despite being an “industry-walla” now, she has not really made too many changes to her lifestyle or for that matter in her circle of friends. She points out, “My friends from the stage tease me now. They say… ‘Arrey star ban gayi’…or… ‘Why don’t you travel business class?’… I am still very normal. I am the same I used to be before films happened to me.”
In between her hectic schedule comprising shooting for Bijoy Nambiar’s Shaitan and her many industry commitments, Kalki is back with her very popular play The Skeleton Woman in the city, this weekend. Though she admits she is aching to work in a new play, she also states that dedicating an uninterrupted month for rehearsals is simply not possible at the moment. She rues, “I would love to take up a new play and try something new. But there is no point if I don’t get a month to rehearse and practice.”
But coming back after a day of shooting under the harsh arc lights, the young actor says she looks for fun on the stage and with her friends. She states, “I don’t know if it is a kind of relief but I can say it is definitely a lot of fun. The stage is so adventurous; it is like a wake-up call for me.”
Kalki recently returned from Spain after a long spell of shooting for Zoya Akhtar’s movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. She admits she was a little nervous when it came to interacting with her co-stars Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif and Farhan Akhtar. She laughs as she reveals, “I definitely was a little nervous interacting with Hrithik, Katrina and Farhan. I didn’t know what to expect. But they are so down to earth. They completely included me in everything they did.”
