THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kalabhavan Theatre in Vazhuthacaud in the city will soon shed its tag of being a ‘B’ centre, with the State Government planning to uplift the theatre as a release centre.Minister for State Film Development Corporation KB Ganesh Kumar on Thursday said that the government-owned theatre, which is also the headquarters of the KSFDC, will be renovated into a fully-equipped theatre complex with two theatres functioning under the same roof.Speaking on the occasion of the inaugural ceremony of the Theatre Classification Committee in the city, the Minister said that the government has roped in top engineering experts in the country to devise a new plan for the theatre.The theatre will be equipped with most-modern air conditioning system and also a high definition 4K projector which could even screen 3D films.The works will be exclusively done by government agencies and would be completed within a time period of six months, once started.The Minister said that similarly, other government-owned theatres in the state would also be renovated and converted into release centres. The move is as part of the government’s plan to bring about wide release of Malayalam films in the state.
