Kairali Theatre set to get silver screen
After its revamp, the Kairali theatre in the city would add this feature to screen movies

‘Silver screen’, the phrase immediately evokes all the pomp and splendour of filmdom for many as it relates to everything connected with celluloid.

Beyond all these definitions, it really has the form of a white background on which the films are screened in movie theatres. City-zens can now enjoy watching films on one more ‘silver screen’ theatre in the city. After its revamp, the Kairali theatre in the city would add this feature to screen movies.

“We will soon float a tender to install a silver screen in the theatre. An amount of ` five lakh would be spent towards establishing the screen. The theatre would be the first-of-its kind under the KSFDC to have a silver screen,” said Sabu Cherian, Chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC).

The cloth screens, which are so popular in the movie theatres, need less than ` 60,000 to establish. The expensive screens that were much popular in the early days of movies gave way to cloth screens later. “The screens made of glass powder would reflect better than cloth screens and can impart a good viewing experience. Only after fixing it at Kairali theatre shall we consider installing it at other theatres under the KSFDC,” Cherian added.

The Kairali-Sree theatre complex, which is undergoing renovation work, is to come up as a multiplex with three theatres, and is slated to reopen on November 30. Kairali theatre would also have a 2K projection facility and a modern food court.
