Two women found themselves in trouble after cracking jokes about bombs on a Delhi-Mumbai Vistara flight recently.

According to a The Times of India report, the women’s remarks not only got them deboarded and later detained by security personnel, but also delayed the flight by two hours and created panic among other travellers.

The instance of inappropriate comments leading to a scare took place on the Vistara Delhi-Mumbai flight (UK 975) on March 29.

According to sources, a passenger received a call while on board the plane informing him that his father in Delhi had suffered a stroke. He requested permission to disembark, leading to the necessary baggage reconciliation procedures. Vistara security personnel then asked passengers to identify their cabin bags in the overhead bins.

One female passenger made a joking remark to airline security, asking why bags were being checked again and if there was a bomb on the plane. The officer politely requested that she refrain from making such jokes. Despite this, the two women traveling together continued with similar jokes, even joking on a video call.

Another passenger, who preferred to remain anonymous, then asked the crew to take action against the two women according to regulations. Subsequently, the pilot decided not to proceed with the flight until the required bomb threat procedures were conducted. Security agencies such as CISF and BCAS were informed, and the decision was made to remove the two women along with their checked-in bags. They were handed over to security authorities.

Airline sources emphasize that such matters are treated seriously and urge passengers to avoid making comments of this nature. The flight eventually departed at 7:47 am, two hours after its scheduled departure time.
