The Department of Microbiology in JIPMER on Thursday said it has come up with a “Handbook of Anti-microbial Use” under the editorship of Professor and Head of Microbiology Department Dr S C Parija, Professor Dr S Sujatha and Assistant professor Dr Jharna Mandal.
The book has been prepared keeping in mind the current trends of drug resistance amongst micro organisms with significant inputs from all relevant clinical disciplines, said a press release.
Rising trend of anti-microbial resistance causing infections is a matter of grave concern.
The key to this growing menace is optimised anti-microbial therapy.
This approach will significantly reduce the risk of development of antimicrobial resistance, minimize the risk of adverse drug reactions and will also reduce the cost of treatment, the release added.
The book will be released by Director Dr T S Ravikumar on Friday followed by a short symposium titled “Antibiotic Policy and Antibiotic Stewardship” moderated by Dr S C Parija.
Professor and Head of Medicien Department Dr T K Dutta and Department of Pharmacology Professors Dr Sujatha and Dr Steven Dkhar will speak on the roles of clinicians, microbiologist and pharmacologist respectively.
