Japanese woman identifies rapist
Following the arrest of four people for allegedly raping a Japanese woman in Pushkar, the Ajmer police conducted an identification parade.

Pushkar (Rajasthan): Following the arrest of four people for allegedly raping and duping a Japanese woman in Pushkar, the Ajmer police conducted an identification parade on Saturday.

The purpose of the parade was so the Japanese woman could help the police identify the accused.

The parade was conducted at Ajmer Central Jail in the presence of a judicial magistrate, Kailash Chandra.

The accused Babloo, manager of hotel Quiet Palace, where the Japanese lady was staying, his mother Roshni and two others were brought before the woman in the presence of Judge Chandra in the jail premises, Ajmer Superintendent of Police Srinivas Janga Rao said.

The Japanese woman, who is currently staying in the Ajmer police guest house,

was escorted to the jail to identify the main accused.

The report of the identification parade is expected to be submitted along with a challan (legal notice) in court next week, the SP said.

After the parade, the suspects were produced in the court of another judicial magistrate, Kishan Lal Choudhary, in Pushkar.

Judge Choudhary has remanded the accused to police custody for two days for further interrogation.

They accused are currently lodged in the Pushkar police station.

The court on Friday had remanded the accused to judicial custody till April 24 for the identification parade following their arrest on Thursday.

Earlier, the Japanese woman had faxed her complaint to Janga from Agra on Tuesday.

In her complaint, she had alleged that Babloo and three others raped her after giving her a drink laced with an intoxicant.

She also alleged that Babloo cheated her of $1,000 and Rs 10,000, which she gave to him for safekeeping for he had told her that Pushkar was unsafe for foreign tourists.

The rape of the Japanese woman is the third case of a tourist rape in Rajasthan in the last one year.

Last year, a fast-track court in Jodhpur had sentenced two auto-rickshaw drivers accused of abducting and raping a German tourist to life imprisonment.

In March, 2006, another man was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment by a fast-track court in Alwar for raping another German tourist.
