Janta Verdict: Shahid beats Darsheel this Fri
Check out who gets a thumbs up and who the audience rejects this week...

Mumbai May 14: This Friday saw the release of three films- Bumm Bumm Bole directed by Priyadarshan, Kushti directed by Rajeev Kumar and Admissions Open directed by K. D Satyam. The first day first show of Bumm Bumm Bole saw a handful of kids and college crowd in the theaters; however the other two films went missing from several theaters.

Irrespective of the film being a big star cast or a mediocre bunch of actors, the theaters often draw a lot of college crowd for the morning shows because of the attractive pricing. For Bumm Bumm Bole, Big Cinemas, all over, is giving one plus one offer to draw more crowds for every show for the weekend.

Darsheel’s first film Taare Zameen Par also starring Aamir Khan had created a lot of noise however the audience turnover at the first day first show of Bumm Bum Bole seemed disappointing probably because of the lack of proper publicity. People hardly knew that the film also stars Atul Kulkarni and Rituparna Sen Gupta.

Suresh Joshi came to watch Badmaash Company but when he found out that Bumm Bumm Bole had Atul Kulkarni in it, he immediately had a change of heart. “I loved Atul in all his films. The film might be good or bad, but I am sure, his performance would be impressive”. However, when this journalist caught him after the film, he was all in praise for Darsheel.

Rohan came along with his other two school friends Ankush and Siddharth to watch the film. In his words, he came to the theater to watch this film only for ‘time pass’. He said, “I am not a fan or something of Darsheel. I just came because I found out that that I will get two tickets at the price of one. Also, I didn’t have anything to do in the morning. Hope the film is good.”

The film is adapted from the Iranian film Children of Heaven directed by Majid Majidi, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. However, not many people are aware of it. “I got no idea whether this film is adapted or not. I loved Darsheel in Taare… and so I came to watch him again”, said Pooja, a college student.

Though the film is very slow and fails to keep you engrossed all throughout, Darsheel’s performance is brilliant. His honesty pours out on screen and makes you sympathize for the character.

On the other hand, Shahid and Anushka starrer Badmaash Company is still having a decent run at the box office. If Bumm Bumm Bole doesn’t pick up on Saturday and Sunday, Badmaash Company may continue its dream run.
