CHITRADURGA: Thirty folk artistes and two folklore experts will be conferred with the Karnataka Janapada Academy Awards on Saturday. The awards will be conferred by Kannada and Culture Minister Govind M Karjol at a programme organised at Ta Raa Su Rangamandir.Academy president Go Ru Channabasappa told reporters that the annual awards consists of Rs 5,000 cash and a citation, where as expert awards will be of Rs 10,000 cash and a citation. “We have also requested the government to enhance the prize money from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000,” he added.For the first time, the Academy will hold a lecture programme on the works of experts. Basavaraj Police Patil of Gulbarga University and G V Anandamurthy of Empress Girls College, Tumkur, will deliver lectures on Prof Sugaiah Hiremath and Meerasabhihalli Shivanna respectively, he added.A book consisting of stamps released on various folk arts across the world and collected by Prabhakar of Bangalore will be released on the occasion. The Karnataka Janapada Academy is coming up with a voluminous work on folk literature in the state.The Academy is coming up with a visual documentation on Janapada Sri awardees.
