The injured were transferred in auto-rickshaws, eyewitnesses at popular Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru told News18. Police suspect that the fire at the eatery was caused by a cylinder explosion. At least five people were injured in the incident.
Another eyewitness said that there was a lot of smoke when the incident took place. Police and fire personnel have rushed to the cafe situated in the HAL police station area. The blast occurred around 1 pm at the Whitefield branch of the cafe in the city’s Rajajinagar.
While there was no immediate word on the exact number of injured persons, police said at least five people have been shifted to the hospital. The injured reportedly included three staff and one customer.
The area has been cordoned off as the police are investigating the explosion.
The cafe, one of the most popular ones in the city, was founded in 2021 by CA Divya Raghavendra Rao and Raghavendra Rao. The name was chosen as a tribute to the late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthplace.
