BHUBANESWAR: Industrial safety has become an important issue not only from the legal point of view but also from productivity side. Though a safer work environment increases productivity, this concept is allegedly given short shrift by most industries, said speakers at the inaugural session of the two-day Orissa State Safety Conclave-2011 here on Wednesday. The conclave is aimed at creating awareness among industries to address safety issues. Labour Commissioner Alekh Padhiary said though there has been a decline in industrial accidents in the State due to safety measures, a lot more needs to be done. “There have been recent developments in terms of technologies and practices, which ensure improved safety and health environment. All industries need to follow them,” he said. The participating industries were asked to follow the National Safety Policy for industrial safety, formulated by the Ministry of Labour two years back.
