New Delhi: The Indian badminton contingent heads off to Malaysia to take on Asia's best in the Asian Badminton Championship in Johar Baru starting Monday.

Top Indian players will take part in the tournament away from home at a time when the Badminton Federation of India has criticised them for poor fitness and endurance levels.

The Federation has also made it mandatory for players to attend national training camps starting April 21 rather than heading off abroad for tournaments.

India's next major outing is at the Sudirman Cup in June, from where the plan will be implemented. All this, even after requests from players to allow them to participate in the prestigious twin Super Series tournament in Malaysia from May 1.

Under these circumstances, this is the last tournament they would get to play before June and proving BAI wrong would be at the top of their agenda.

Anup Sridhar from the men and teenage prodigy Saina Nehwal from the women will lead the Indian contingent in the event. National champion and India's top ranked shuttler Chetan Anand would miss the action as he had requested an exemption from BAI to leave him out of the event.
