India lodges protest with Pakistan over ceasefire violation in Akhnoor sector in which one woman was killed
The ceasefire violation on Wednesday was the seventh attack by Pakistani troops in July.

Islamabad: After fresh firing along the Line of Control killed one woman, India on Thursday lodged a protest with Pakistan over the ceasefire violation in Akhnoor sector. India had expressed disappointment at the fresh breach.

According to government sources, Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad TCA Raghavan raised the issue with the Pakistan Foreign Office and Pakistan's High Commissioner in Delhi was also conveyed India's concerns regarding ceasefire violation in which one woman was killed and some people injured.

Raghavan had raised the issue with Pakistan Foreign Secretary on Wednesday Pakistan after one woman was killed and six others, including two BSF jawans, were injured on Wednesday in a "major ceasefire violation" by Pakistan. The violation came two days ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu.

"We are disappointed at the developments which have taken place this morning. There was major ceasefire violation committed by Pakistani forces in Akhnoor sector which led to casualties in India. I spoke to the (Pak) foreign secretary this morning and again in the afternoon. The ceasefire violation has led to the death of a civilian woman in Akhnoor," Indian High Commissioner TCA Raghavan said on Wednesday.

Raghavan had said that a formal protest would be lodged with Pakistan over the incident after getting all the facts. It was the seventh ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in July.

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu on Friday, Pakistan Rangers violated the ceasefire twice on Wednesday by resorting to firing and mortar shelling in the Akhnoor sector.
