New York: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is in the United States to attend the UNGA session, while extending a hand of friendship towards India also raked up the Kashmir issue. Sharif on Friday said India and Pakistan can build on the Lahore Accord, and added that he was looking forward to meeting his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.
"India and Pakistan can build on the Lahore Accord. This is what I have long aspired for," said Sharif. "I invited Manmohan Singh and he reacted positively, look forward to meet him," he added.
But just like the previous Pakistani leaders, Sharif did not let go of the opportunity to raise the Kashmir issue. "We demand full realisation of right of self determination of Jammu and Kashmir. The issue of Jammu and Kashmir which was presented to UNSC in Janunary 1948 remains unsolved," he added.
