In Udupi, Locals And Officials Join Forces To Rescue Crocodile From Well

A massive 9-foot-long crocodile in Nagoor village, Byndoor taluk, Udupi district, Karnataka was rescued from a house well on Wednesday, July 31. Initially, according to Local 18 Kannada, the forest department officials had placed a cage near the well to capture the crocodile. However, when this step doesn’t work, the crocodile is saved by throwing a fish net. The saved reptile was shifted to a safe place. Aquatic animals are reaching people’s homes due to the recent floods caused by the heavy rains. The Udupi district natives feel that a crocodile got in the house well similarly. At last, a team of residents named Manju and Sudhakar from Koderi village captured the reptile using a fish net after a day’s operation. An animal lover from Uttara Kannada, named Snake Pawan, has now brought this crocodile to a safe place with the help of the forest department.

Under the guidance of the forest department, as seen in Local 18 Kannada visual, the trapped crocodile was lifted with the cooperation of the locals. Nagoor Network and Security Solutions Rakshak had installed CCTV to monitor the crocodile’s movement. In the visual, the social media users can see how the officials ensured that the crocodile didn’t attack them. One of them sat on its back while the other injected him with some solution to sedate the reptile. The official sitting at the back displayed remarkable courage as he continued to hold its jaws for a long time during the sedation. Despite the brave operation, the officials didn’t indulge in any animal cruelty to deal with the crocodile. They ensured that the reptile was dealt with with a lot of tact and patience.

Finally, after a long struggle, the officials left the reptile in its natural habitat, a nearby lake. They made a video recording of the crocodile crawling in the lake.

As per the Mangalore Today, Byndoor Tahsildar Pradeep Ram, Police Sub Inspector BN Thimmesh, Range Forest Officer Sandesh, and other officials supervised the rescue operation. Nearby natives gathered to witness the rare sight of the crocodile in the well throughout Tuesday and Wednesday.
