The decision, taken as part of Road Safety Programme, aims at reducing accidents on State highways. It was also decided to remove liquor shops along highways and the matter will be taken up by the transport department with the excise department.Rest rooms for drivers will be built on highways at every 100 km.The other decisions include use of breath analysers at toll plazas to check drunken driving and establishment of driving schools in all district in collaboration with bus or lorry owners' associations. The government offered to provide land, if necessary, for laying driving tracks for learners. The meeting, convened by transport minister Botcha Satyanarayana, was attended by officials of the Road Transport Authority and Road Transport Corporation, and representatives of bus and lorry owners' associations. The minister asked district collectors to convene meetings at the district level with transport, police and RTC officials and take necessary steps to reduce road accidents. Fixing of speed governors in all transport vehicles came up for discussion but lorry and bus owners opposed the idea, saying it would be of no use
